Julia LAFFRANQUE has been a judge at the European Court of Human Rights since 2011. She is also a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration. From 2004 to 2010, she was a judge at the Estonian Supreme Court. Previously, she was Head of EU Law Division, and then Deputy Secretary General on Legislative Drafting at the Ministry of Justice. She also held various positions at the University of Tartu where she became Professor in 2011. She is a member of several boards and associations, such as the Estonian Association for European Law, and is the author of several books and journal articles on the relationship between EU law and Estonian law. Julia Laffranque has studied law in Estonia and Germany, and is Doctor Juris from the University of Tartu.
